Free Comic Book Day and its Halloween cousin, Halloween ComicFest, run by Diamond Publishing (who has a monopoly on comic store distribution) exists to draw people to comics and comic stores. American Express, the credit card company, pushes “Small Business Saturday” to get people into smaller businesses, which keeps getting squeezed out by bigger companies and governmental policies that claim to be helping the little guy but hurts small businesses who can’t keep up with the new policies allegedly targeting big business. ComicPRO, a trade organization that is suppose to help comic stores, is combining the two ideas to create Local Comic Shop Day. ICv2’s Nicole Bunge brings us the details.
