Batman & Robin Adventures #6

Don’t worry. Batman always has a spare Robin on the way.

The Batman And Robin Adventures #6

DC Comics (May, 1996)

“Round Robin”
WRITER: Ty Templeton
ARTIST: Rick Burchett
COLORIST: Linda Medley
LETTERING: Richard Starkings & Comicraft
ASSOCIATE EDITOR: Darren Vincenzo
EDITOR: Scott Peterson

When a local tabloid falsely reports that Batman fires Robin, a whole bunch of teens try to apply for the position. This is a problem for the Dynamic Duo since they have to solve the kidnapping of one of the would-be Robins when he screws up trying to stop a convenience store robbery. They’re able to save the day and stop the kidnapper and hopefully put to rest that there’s an opening for a new Boy (or Girl) Wonder.

What they got right: This isn’t some serious examination of criminal motivations or some major mystery. This is just fun with enough tragic possibilities (the kidnapped “Robin”) to keep the story centered in the DCAU. Templeton even sneaks in Carrie as the most persistent of the applicants.

What they got wrong: Why does Robin…the regular Robin…look like he didn’t comb his hair before going out? Maybe Burchett was trying to give his hair a bit more style but it doesn’t match the art style.

Recommendation: If you don’t mind a little fun in your Batman story, seek this one out.
