Back To The Future is a popular movie trilogy that spawned video games, a Saturday Morning cartoon on CBS and later FOX, and even an amusement park ride at Universal Studios. Now the creator, Bob Gale, will be teaming with IDW to bring the franchise to comics. In this interview with Previews World, Gale drops a few behind-the-scenes info from the movies you might not have known about and discusses bringing the series to comics. A quick bit of research shows this is the second time there has been a Back To The Future comic, the other a Harvey-published tie-in to the cartoon.

The 80s keep returning! I found out some other good news today…..a new Voltron comic book series (Voltron from the Ashes) will start hitting the stands in September! Between Back To The Future, Voltron, and other 80s creations being revived in various media, it just goes to show that decade was a time of high quality creativity.

I wouldn’t get my hopes up. I did a review of the few issues of Dynamite’s last Voltron series and it had some issues as an adaptation. I would hunt down the Devil’s Due omnibus (and ignore the A Legend Forged miniseries–all of which I’ve reviewed) instead. That was a re-imagining but a better Voltron comics series.

Thanks for that information on the 21st century Voltron comics. I only have 2 issues of the Voltron comic from 1985 (Modern, a division of Charlton Comics that used to exist in Derby, CT), and those were decent. I’ve never actually seen any of the more recent ones. I’ll search your site for your reviews of Dynamite’s Voltron series. Well, at the very least, I can purchase Issue 1 of Voltron from the Ashes. If it’s not to my liking, then I won’t get any more future issues. But I will read your reviews of past Voltron comics to get an idea of what I’m getting into. Your reviews could help me decide whether it’s worth it to get those back issues if I ever stumbled upon them.
