“Season Of Revolt” #3 WRITER: Jan Strnad PENCILER: Bill Hughes INKER: Keith Williams BACKGROUND INKER: Rich Perrota COLORIST: Perry McNamee COVER ART: Kilian Plunkett LETTERER: Steve Dutro EDITOR: Peet Janes
When Craw’s forces open a hole in the shield, Zorenth and the rebels launch an attack. Threepio and Zorenth’s aide make it through the hole before it’s closed up and rescue Artoo. Threepio convinces the aide to remove the caretaker virus he implanted when fixing Artoo so he can focus on taking the shield down over finding Smiley. With Craw deposed and Smiley recovered, Zorenth lets our Droids in on what is behind the locked door on his ship…a garden of Savorium, which Zorenth claims hold the future of the galaxy.
What they got right: That’s a nice little twist there with the Savorium. This chapter is serious when it needs to be but has a little fun with Craw’s evilness. For example he’s sorry the Savorium would mean the torture wouldn’t be as much fun. On the other hand when someone needs to sit on Smiley to hold him down during the rebels’ raid, Craw is the one who has to do it so his general can lead the counterstrike. Craw also tries to figure out what to do with Artoo and even Presea wouldn’t do some of it to Mokona. It’s my favorite sequence in the comic.
What they got wrong: Threepio looks a bit stubby in this issue, like not as tall and thin as usual.
Recommendation: I’m still enjoying this arc and the series. Droids fans should track this down.
