Big Daddy and the Hot Rod Patrol are targets of the Deluxe Insecticons and they managed to get the Decepticon Micromasters back on their side. Skystalker is looking for Countdown because he found an artifact on Paradon, a golden disk that includes information the Micromasters although it was created before them. Meanwhile, some of the other Autobot Micromasters have gone out of their way to make the Hot Rods look bad and barred them from the base, although one is on their side. Our heroes must journey alone back to the Burn Outs to fight the Insecticons. However, Skystalker has used a good strategy to take out Blitzwing and Shockwave and called the Decepticon Micromasters together. They’re taking over this operation, see?

What they got right: In Dreamwave’s More Than Meets The Eye profile books they include a bit in Groundshaker’s entry where Countdown was questioning having him on the team. They use that bit as part of this story as Groundshaker tries to convince Countdown to help the Micromasters against the Insecticons. The golden disk, which you may recall from the Beast Wars cartoon, also showed up there in the framing device of Predacon Megatron peeking through the Autobot and Decepticon datatrax. Transformers Universe was never treated as part of the regular comic series, just a profile book, so I like the addition.

What they got wrong: I still can’t tell who is whom or what part they play and now we have in-fighting even within the same faction of Micromasters. This is kind of weak here. What happened to Autobots waging their battle to destroy the evil forces of the Decepticons, not being out to screw over their fellow Autobots because they’re a little butt hurt?

Recommendation: I’m kind of enjoying the miniseries, but just enough to hold onto it. It’s a good idea but it’s still way too hard to follow what’s going on with whom. That makes it difficult to recommend.
