Superboy #6

At this point Parasite remembered he was afraid of heights AND couldn’t swim.

(Continued from Hardware #17) Superboy comes to Metropolis to check up on Cadmus and help Superman clean up Metropolis. While travelling with Cat Grant and Dublex around the city helping with survivors (including Cat’s neighbor and a picture of her son) they come across Fred Benson, who is being pursued by the Parasite, the villain able to sense Fred’s power. Superboy is able to corral Parasite with help from Dublex before Fred teleports himself and the Boy Of Steel to Dakota, and a meeting with Rocket. (Continued In Icon #15)

What they got right: The fight with Parasite was a good one. If Parasite can sense the power in Fred Benson it makes the mailman even more of a mystery, setting up the arc. While the Milestone comics thus far have done a better job using Benson, at least we get more aftermath from him than we did in chapter 1.

What they got wrong: I understand why they tried to pop up Superboy’s other life events like his friends, the clone disease and his part in the cure and whatnot, using the crossover to promote the comic. However, far too often these attempts end up delaying the story we came here for and just bugging us rather than getting us interested in continuing the series after the event is over. This is sadly one of those times. Also, how well are the Superman and Milestone teams communicating? Last time we saw Fred Benson he was in a lab in Dakota. Did he fall asleep again? And why the last time now that I think of it did he end up randomly in Metropolis instead of back in the lab secretly run by Hazard?

Recommendation: I remember the crossover getting better but things are really slow. Collect this issue to get the full story and the crossover into the next issue of Icon but otherwise there isn’t much here besides a decent Superboy/Parasite battle.
