Terrorists hire the Chameleon to kill off two foreign leaders signing a peace treaty. SHIELD recruits Jameson since he’s having a party for him at his penthouse, but Peter was taken with him and overhears the whole thing. Spider-Man is able to stop the Chameleon after he tries to disguise himself as Fury to trick the SHIELD agents, but used a flipped obituary photo from the Bugle, tipping Spider-Man off. The Chameleon screws up again during the signing when Spider-Man recognizes Peter Parker at the event. For once Spidey gets a thank you, from Nick Fury himself!

What they got right: With too many of these tie-in comics playing close to the original comics, I was pleased that they kept the cartoon explanation for the Chameleon’s powers, a belt that can alter his form and clothing to match anyone he takes a picture of.

What they got wrong: If Fury is supposed to be dead, when did the Chameleon find out he was both alive and director of SHIELD? I guess it’s possible considering SHIELD’s investigations but it’s not explained, at least here.

Recommendation: A neat alternate take on the Chameleon. Worth checking out, but there is still the actual episode.
