Why July Fourth Is Independence Day

Usually on this day I try to find a new reading of the Declaration Of Independence to remind my fellow Americans what it is we are celebrating and not just fireworks and hot dogs. However, I came across this interesting video challenging the notion that the 4th Of July is when the signing took place. So why do we celebrate it then?
