The Schaft agent hands over their new military Labor over to a pair of bumbling anarchists with the condition that they get a Patlabor’s data disk. It’s Noa and Shinohara on duty (much to Ota’s rage) and thus their mission to confront the maniacs.
What they got right: Short synopsis but a lot does happen. Noa is trying to train her Ingram’s fingers to tie knots in order to improve performance. In a rare moment of genre savvy they actually tune in to the news too late to get the information they need. I think that’s the first time I’ve seen that happen. And of course the network is running a bet on whether or not the Patlabor will win and Goto wants in on that. It’s these fun moments that really carry the comic.
What they got wrong: Since the original printing was designed for a longer book this just ends abruptly. It’s kind of hard to avoid but all I’ve got for complaints.
Recommendation: Still very much recommending this book for fans of fun mecha action.
