Doctor Octopus manages to send a space probe to retrieve the Venom symbiote. As Peter is about to tell Mary Jane that he’s Spider-Man, Octavius breaks Eddie Brock out of prison. Peter leaves a fuming MJ behind as Spider-Man confronts Doc Ock. The villain scientist is forced to unleash the symbiote on Eddie, meaning Venom is back and Spider-Man is in trouble.
What they got right: Ending the series with two of Spidey’s biggest foes is certainly a good way to about it.
What they got wrong: But considering how long it was since the symbiote was launched into space how did Otto’s probe reach the ship and bring it back to Earth in so short a time? And why drop the longtime writer two issues before cancellation? Also, not your own version of the Sinister Six? It’s not like they’ve been following the cartoon with this series, and the episode guide is a poor convincer.
Recommendation: A good start to the story. We’ll see how it, and the series, concludes next time but it’s not a bad issue to check out.
