When you think of pirates, you probably think of Captain Jack Sparrow, or Monkey D. Luffy, or those old pirate movies where pirates seem like fun guys to hang out with. However, the truth of piracy is a bit more complicated and has a lot more dead bodies. It’s not surprising that Hollywood got things wrong, but pretty much everybody has gotten this wrong…and partly right. From Cracked’s Hilarious Helmet History comes the history about pirates.

This provided fascinating historical information about pirates. Pirates are still operating in the waters of Southeast Asia, especially in the Indonesia area and also off the coast of Somalia. Asian piracy actually has a longer history than that of the Caribbean.
