1542: Wu Ao-Shi is the current Iron Fist and she also controls Pinghai Bay.
2007: Danny falls into the building and the police scare off Hydra. Danny manages to call Luke for help, and learns that Misty Knight, his ex, has taken the Heroes For Hire name as part of the registered heroes (yeah, it was around the time of that stupid Registration Act nonsense). Meanwhile, Randall has arrived and is forced to use the Iron Fist to protect himself from his enemies, which has a negative reaction on his son Danny, which just adds to his problems as Wai-Go is attempting a hostile takeover of Rand’s business to get that train.
What they got right: The mystery surrounding Randall is interesting.
What they got wrong: Personally I don’t care about the story of Hydra’s front company trying to steal Rand’s company. Also, I thought Danny’s dad was killed during his origin as the Iron Fist. Brubaker and Fraction also seem to really want to create the lineage of Iron Fists, which is the only reason I see thus far for having these unconnected two-page stories Danny’s predecessors, Randall’s flashback to World War II being the only one that matters, as it covers how he managed to take out the second set of baddies stalking him. Also we have both Rands with their own stories and the only connection is Randall using his powers are messing with Danny’s powers and his body.
What I think overall: Thus far I am not having fun reading this comic. It’s the same darkness as the Captain America story I reviewed recently from Brubaker but the marital arts movies that inspired the character is completely absent here. This is why they call this period the Dark Age of comics and I’m not a fan of it.
