Godzilla proved a huge success for Toho and just like anyone else other Japanese studios were more than willing to try to make their success by ripping off what someone else already produced. Among them was Daiei Film and Gamera, The Giant Monster. While not reaching the heights of Toho’s kaiju, he has gained a strong enough level of international popularity to have more than a few films under his belt, and he doesn’t have to share with other monsters.

The original movie is not in public domain, but I did manage to find a post with a new dub so you can watch it before YouTube finds it. However the US rework, Gammera The Invincible, apparently is…or Daiei hasn’t seem to catch it. Maybe the misspelling is confusing the copywrite bots? Who knows? Tonight you have two ways to view this version. So we have a new dub, we have the original and questionable English rework, and finally the Rifftrax version of the rework, as done by Mike Nelson, Kevin Murphy, and Bill Corbett. This last one is the version I actually planned for a Showcase but for the sake of the non-riff crowd, or if you want to make fun of it yourself as the dub is not the best example, the first video is just the dub without the riff. Sorry I can’t help the sub crowd out but the only version on YouTube requires payment. Either way, enjoy.
