As the echidna and dingo cities continue to pop in and out of reality, Knuckles, Archimedes, and Julie-Su manage to save Knuckles’ mom but most of the entourage are taken by the dingos. As things get worse General Striker tries to attack Knuckles, but soon everyone must get to underground shelters as the zones continue to fall apart. Hawking takes a powder because there’s something he has to do, but leaves Knuckles with his hat and the two cities come together back on the Floating Island.

What they got right: I think the addition of the hat was because of how Sega added it to his character model. We also get to check in with the Chaotix for a moment. And I was right. The weirdness with the Zones, including the Dark Legion managing to escape, was tied to what Robotnix was doing, so at least something ties to the Sonic comics.

What they got wrong: This story is a bit of a mess. I’m not sure why the dingoes or Julie-Su are here besides Penders wanting to add these characters, despite them having no ties to the game. Given he took them with him when he left to try to start over it’s clear he was more interested in his own story than the game’s. The resolution is a bit forced for time. I’m also curious how Echidnaopolis and whatever the dingo city is called are in the same geographic location. They should be in their own zones but also their old locations, shouldn’t they?

What I think overall: This seems to be more about worldbuilding than storybuilding and really isn’t taking the source material into account. I could get over that if I understood just how things resolved but I guess we’ll check in with Hawking later?
