Ms. Marvel deals with a trash robot sent by the Inventor. (You know, the chicken-headed clone of Thomas Edison because comics.) Unfortunately this makes Kamala super late being part of a bridal party so she has to run off.
Yeah, the ComiXology file says its 29 pages but that’s a lie. It’s more like five pages, with the other pages used for a rather interesting presentation. You turn to a “page” with panels greyed out and as you go through a new panel goes color with text. It’s something that actually looks cool as a digital comic but the way the effect is achieved doesn’t leave much time for story, which I guess is fine given that it’s an excerpt from an anthology comic.
As for the story itself, it’s kind of fun but way too short as a result. Kamala does show some intelligent use of her body size altering shapeshifting powers (the ones she has in the comics rather than the boring energy constructs of the TV series), and she gets a Spidey moment in that the fight keeps her from something in her personal life that her family was counting on her being there for. However, given that this comic has a reputation for putting Kamala’s personal life as a Muslim teen girl trying to fit in over her superhero role and Marvel’s obsession with being quirky, especially in MCU productions in the more recent phases, I can see this story not going over big with superhero fans. On it’s own though it’s okay. I would have liked to have seen a longer fight but it’s a short story in an anthology so that wasn’t happening anyway.
TL:DR> As a free comic reprinting a short story from an anthology, it’s okay. The digital version is has an interesting presentation but it’s still five pages pretending to be 29.
