Star Power #10
(May, 2015)
“The Search For Black Hole Bill” finale
WRITER: Michael Terracciano
ARTIST: Garth Graham
With her powers now stabilized, Star Power takes on the Supernova Dragon Lords, and Roarboar himself. Black Hole Bill’s various attempts to shoot her or the rescue party are met with Grex trying to kill him, missing only because she’s letting her rage distract her. Star Power manages to knock him out and destroy Roarboar’s flying bike, though he manages to escape. For destroying an AI, which its creators consider murdering one of their children, Bill’s punishment will be on their planet, which satisfies Grex, though Laylo has to deal with all the paperwork from this mission. Meanwhile the other two Void Angels are trying to talk sense into their revenge-driven colleague. On the plus side Bill is gone, the other Dragon Lords arrested, and Mitch is now aware of at least one remaining Star Power Sentinel, which now they have to find.
What they got right: It’s an action packed finale. Star Power isn’t just kicking every butt, but struggles and overcomes, with help from Grex’s sharpshooting. Plus we have a good lead-in to the next story with the second Sentinel.
What they got wrong: Nothing, really, and it’s nice to be able to say that for at least two issues in a row.
What else is there: The usual format worldbuilding bios are replaced with some kind of tale made to look like they were drawn on papyrus or something, about harsh life on one planet and seeing the “stars at war”. I wonder if this is going to play into the next storyline? I actually don’t remember because it’s been so long since I’ve read these, and that was a page every few days. Now I’m reading them an issue at a time.
What I think overall: This is a great example of how you do a female superhero. It’s the same as a male superhero, but with a girl instead of a boy, but she has superstrength and energy blasts she can turn into a shield or a sword. I really enjoy this series and I’m sorry they aren’t still working on it, but I’m sure they’re doing fine on their own projects that they were ready to get back to.
