Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #13

“The People’s Choice”
WRITER/ARTIST: Michael Dooney
LETTERER: Steve Lavigne
The Turtles have a campout by the lake when a space vessel crashes. They rescue a young woman, who came to Earth for elective combat. By that I mean she was elected leader but she doesn’t take the job until she defeats the current leader. Too bad the current leader is a dirty cheat, but the Turtles help level the playing field, and the new leader defeats the old one to become the official leader of her world.
What they got right: There are some decent threats in the “allies” the old leader, Moriah, uses, but in the end it’s Moriah versus Jhanna and the fights are all done quite well.
What they got wrong: If you grade the art on the 1980s indie curve there aren’t any major issues.
What I think overall: As a one-shot story it’s okay. This is the first time the writing is done by someone other than Eastman & Laird, but Dooney did assist with the art in the past. He does remember that Leonardo is still mentally recovering from his beating at the hands of the Foot and it’s a good story idea. Overall I rather enjoyed it.
