Skyle has Beena taken hostage to force a meeting with Star Power over the next planet our heroes were headed for, Umantro. He’s not playing fair, even attacking Burke and Bug (who really seems to want to kill Beena) during the battle. Between his growing conscience and Skyle’s actions Burke points out who has Beena and Star Power rescues her only for the two of them to be zapped into the temple on the planet. There Star Power faces another challenge, fighting the Guardian while injured from the Void Angels attack, which leads to Beena protecting her friend despite having to leave the healing field. Showing compassion is the key to the final…key. This opens a gate that takes her to Zicuri Ro, which happens to be the planet all those backstory bits have been coming from.
What they got right: Burke’s redemption arc truly starts here and he’ll become an important supporting cast member soon. I do like a good redemption story. Once again it’s Danica’s morals being tested, and even Beena gets involved in saving her friend. It’s what I want from a superhero story.
What they got wrong: If we’re finally getting rid of Skyle and Bug I’ll be happy. They aren’t bad characters. I just don’t like them personally and find them a distraction. I’m also wondering if Bug is xenophobic or just a bigot. Even if they’ve done this kind of thing before the revenge thing is still extreme and our two not-reforming villains just went too far this story.
What I think overall: See, there are good superheroines out there. This is a great example and if more girl superheroes were written like this there wouldn’t be such a huge debate right now about superheroines.
