This is where I make a joke about the cover but right now I’m trying to remember getting the comic on ComiXology.

Munich: 1934: Johann, the future Red Skull, meets with his old trainer and learns where the Fuhrer is going to be. Then he kills the trainer for punching him when he showed up. Together with his co-conspirators they prepare to kill Hitler. The more reluctant member and Johann set about the ruse, with the other kid ready to show the courage needed to carry out the hit at the cost of their lives. Except all three co-conspirators were set up. Johann betrays them all to earn a place as Hitler’s right hand.
What they got right: I haven’t seen the previous four issues or most of the Red Skull’s prior appearances. This isn’t so much the origin of the Red Skull as it is how Johann Schmidt got into the position he did prior to becoming the villain. It certainly matches up with what little I know of him. The art is quite good and matches the tone of the story.
What they got wrong: It’s the villain’s backstory. How did you expect it to end? As noted in the caption gag I don’t know how this ended up in my ComiXology library. I don’t even know when I got it. In short I don’t have any major complaints.
What I think overall: If I cared about the villains beyond getting punched by the hero I might be interested in this miniseries, and even then I am mildly curious since this issue is so well done.
