Starscream chases…Bumblebee? Goldbug? He isn’t named but the references point to his later name than his original. Anyway, BumbleBug crashed near Cobra’s headquarters just as G.I. Joe is on the attack to foil their latest plan. GoldBee ends up saving Snake Eyes from Starscream but later gets his face shot off by Cobra Commander just before a huge explosive goes off that manages to take down Bumblebee/Goldbug. Starscream takes the remains back to Megatron where the Decepticons hope to get information from his systems on the Autobots.

What they got right: A full story for a Free Comic Book Day comic. Usually, that’s a good thing.

What they got wrong: Usually. Killing off Bumblebee/Goldbug is a “me” complaint but there’s so much wrong with this and most of it is the dialog. Duke is a rookie member her and spends part of the fight hitting on Scarlet (with some dialog later pointing to her being engaged to Snake Eyes I think…playing on the show making her a couple with Duke and every adaptation since following the Marvel Comics idea of her and Snake Eyes), and the banter is just painful. I’m not even able to follow part of what’s going on because I just don’t want to read it. Bumblewhatever and Starscream aren’t much better, with dialog that makes the first issue of the Marvel comic seem more natural and the idea of them not speaking English, with squiggle lines for the Transformer dialog and the translation in text boxes is not fun to read.

What I think overall: I didn’t bother getting the physical version of this or keep up with the comic because the previews already looked bad to me. After reading the ComiXology posting my opinion hasn’t changed. I can do without this in my life and I’m glad I passed on it. As a Transformers/G.I. Joe crossover, just go read the Marvel or Devil’s Due versions. Those were the best ones.
