Star Power #16
(November, 2016)
“Star Power & The Last Jump Gate” part 1
WRITER: Michael Terracciano
ARTIST: Garth Graham
The upgrade is finally unlocked and the installation begins…and anyone who has used a computer or smart device knows how long that takes. As she waits, Danica is having concerns about whether she can handle the pressure of being Star Power. It doesn’t help when word comes down that The Traveller is coming as Star Power is being asked to help with the gate investigation and go beyond the currently known gate network. T-O-M gets the new name “Old Tom”, and Burke (now we know his last name is Tacken) is being brought to Sanctuary Six, the Chief wanting Grex to talk to him. Quincy comes up with a way of getting Danica to believe in herself enough to take on the mission.
What they got right: The back-up in this one is a list of TV shows and movies from the current streaming service, which tells you a bit more about the culture of various races, including humans in this time period. Also, I would totally watch Psi-Cop. Through flashback we see a bit of Danica with her family in the past and her surrogate family in the present. Quincy turns out to be a pretty cool guy, whether he actually has mind-reading powers or not.
What they got wrong: If I hadn’t read this series in the past and knew how Burke was coming along, I would have said this storyline is getting close to overdoing the number of storylines in the comic. Fortunately I know it works out in the end.
What I think overall: This is still an enjoyable superhero comic. Glad I was able to review it thanks to the presentation.
