The city of Featherbay has a hero so good that the police are slacking off. That hero is Ultraduck. After seeing him we flash back to the origin of Carlos, who may be losing his girlfriend because he doesn’t have a consistent job. His slacker fox friend, Louie, tries to convince him not to worry about it but he’s about to have something to worry about. Someone carrying a high-tech package is being chased by a pair of gorillas (actual gorillas…this is one of those funny talking animal people books) and drops the package. The device pops out of the box and onto Carlos. Both him and the other guy vanish.

After seeing the trailer and another for an upcoming animated production I was kind of hoping we’d get more than that. At least it starts with showing us who Ultraduck is before going into the flashback. The art is really good and what I’ve seen of the concept makes me want to check out the full graphic novel. Mission accomplished. I wish I had more to say but it’s kind of short, and thus so is this review. Sorry.
