Valiant 8-Bit Adventures: Unity
Valiant Comics digital comic
“Training Day”

Not sure how to really summarize this because when you actually describe it not much happens. Livewire, Ninjak (the original, not the re-imagine I reviewed years ago), and Gilad the Eternal Warrior are in a training session to fight X-O Manowar, except the simulation looks like an 8-bit video game. They get through the three challenges, designed after their abilities and skills, but the guy running it, Toyo Harada, pulls the plug before fighting the virtual X-O because he doesn’t think they’re ready yet.
It’s a good thing the Kindle Cloud reader is using the ComiXology guided view because that’s the only way to read this comic. Like a previous comic I reviewed, Motorcycle Samurai, this comic uses Guided View to create a sense of animation. It’s a cool effect…most of the time. There are a few panels/pages where they keep the text from one panel to another and ruins the effect while in others you’d have to be reading it one panel/page at a time in order to keep the balloon reading order straight. Beyond that it’s just as silly story of three Valiant heroes running around an NES game. I’m not even sure why they want to fight Aric, who I assume has the XO armor in this timeline.
It’s an interesting read once but overall it’s just not very interesting and I’m not sure if it even matters in continuity. We’ll find out after Christmas and New Years break when I resume the “Yesterday’s” Comic with a few issues of X-O Manowar I have in my ComiXology library before finally ending my look through those unless I decide to try the Scooby-Doo comics again. That will be back on Thursdays.
