“The Choir Of Doctor Hymn” part 2
WRITER: Michael Terracciano
ARTIST: Garth Graham
COVER ART: Kristirlyn
Everyone is excited to meet Dr. Hymn, except maybe Burke because orchestral isn’t his style of music. (He’s more of a Lynyrd Skynyrd guy.) Grex seems to be the only one comfortable with Burke along, but Danica does try to help him out during their meeting with Hymn. However, things are not what they seem. They’re collecting their shower residue and DNA samples from their glasses, and someone swiped the dead guy Hymn killed last issue. If that wasn’t enough, the Chief is looking into Burke’s case and what he found makes him think our heroes are in big trouble…and thanks to a communication block around the planet he can’t warn them!
What they got right: This chapter is covered with little touches that make the story feel more like a living world. The bit with Burke’s music choices is joined by the fact he cleans up nicely. Danica and Mitch add one of Hymn’s songs into the latest star observation scans (kept out of the official records), which doesn’t just make Brightman happy but Hymn as well. The Chief so wrapped up in his work that he breaks “character” at one point and doesn’t realize he’s been at it nonstop for three days.
What they got wrong: Can we stop the him/Hymn joke? We get it, they sound the same. When Burke shows off a sample of his music, I can’t tell if Danica is facepalming or laughing.
What I think overall: I’m running out of ways to keep from repeating myself how well I enjoy this comic.
