Star Power #24
(July, 2018)
“The Choir Of Doctor Hymn” part 4
WRITER: Michael Terracciano
ARTIST: Garth Graham
COLORIST: Rebecca McConnell
COVER ART: Kristilyn
The rogue singer forces Burke to help him in his revenge on Hymn, but they’re caught. The rogue is taken prisoner and Burke is framed for the attack on the other singers, which Danica easily falls for, but Grex (who was also attacked when she went looking for Burke) isn’t so sure. Dr. Brightman…goes full groupie with Hymn, as his people start the experiment…which causes chaos. This allows the rogue to escape and clear Burke just as Hymn reveals the full secret of his choir…they’re all clones of him. No, I’m not doing the gag. Meanwhile, the experiment is also a clone, which sped itself quickly to the end of the process and it’s also a clone…of Star Power!
What they got right: Danica may be the goody-good superhero, which is why I love her, but she’s still human. So her falling easily for Kerina’s ruse isn’t out of character given her history with Burke. They managed to get Brightman…you know…with the doctor in a way that younger readers may not fully get but know something happened. (This isn’t exactly Disney Junior territory, folks. We’re talking like 10 year olds or something.) We also get the full dark secret of Doctor Hieronymus Hymn and his choir in the second to last issue to this story arc. They also slipped a hint of what was going on in one of the lore pages, which they reveal this issue.
What they got wrong: You know what I’m not going to miss when this storyline is over? The stupid Hymn/him pun gag!
What I think overall: This is still much better than a lot of the other super”hero” material being put out right now.
