I hope this wasn’t the cover for a physical comic.

Geek Girl: Whatever Happened To Ruby Kaye

Markosia Enterprises (May, 2018)

WRITER/CREATOR: Sam Johnson

ARTIST: Carlos Granda

COLORIST: Chunlin Zhao

LETTERER: Paul Mclaren

This is a preview for I believe volume two of Geek Girl. We’re told in text that the electric powered villain Lightning Storm took out hero Neon Girl, and Geek Girl has vowed to bring the villainess down. We also learn later that Ruby Kaye won the high-tech glasses that gives her powers in a game of strip poker with the creator. (Our hero, folks.) During the battle, Geek Girl managed to defeat Lightning Storm but had the glasses pulled off of her and was rendered comatose. Now supervillains see the town of Maine as easy pickings while Ruby’s friend Summer tries to get her to wake up.

I like when previews are a complete story, and this is close given it’s a teaser for a full miniseries. I do enjoy the art and the coloring is really good for an indie project. Kind of iffy on how she got her powers, though.

Overall I have a mild curiosity at best about this series if only because I like superheroes and the idea of the popular girl becoming a geeky superhero, a reverse of the trope, has some possibilities. The preview itself didn’t really excite me enough to hunt it down, though.
