I’m not promising that every cover caption gag isn’t making fun of their name…at least unless the comic gets more interesting before I’m out of “essential” issues according to my list.
The S0lution #2
Malibu Comics/Ultraverse (October, 1993)
“Showdown”
WRITER: James Hudnall
PENCILER: Darick Robertson
INKER: Mike Miller
COLORING: Tim Divar (design) and Violent Hues (interior)
LETTERER: Tim Eldred
EDITOR: Hank Kanalz
The enemy, calling themselves Quatro, get the jump on the Solution when they meet with their client, thanks to their boss sensing the spy attempt last issue. The battle goes into the streets and the cops end up shooting the client. With the Solution gaining the upper hand in spite of the cops and ambush, the Quatro leave. Shadowmage is sure they won’t bother coming after them again with the client gone, but Tech is sure they’ll meet again.
What they got right: There isn’t much to summarize because this issue is mostly a battle between the two groups, and a bit bloody at times for my personal taste, but not excessively gory under the circumstances. We get more hints about Shadowmage, Dropkick, and Vurk via their battles with counterparts among the Quatro.
What they got wrong: Hints are all we get. I still know nothing about these characters beyond Tech and thus she’s the only one I’m even close to caring about.
What I think overall: I’m following this up to issue #4 because that’s labeled “essential” in the reading order I’m going by. Whether or not I stay after that depends on it getting better in the next two issues that it is so far.
