Some time while I was preoccupied, concept art for Avengers: Doomsday ended up on the internet. Posted by Marvel Studios concept artist Mushk Rizvi, it was taken off his ArtStation account almost as quickly as it came up. However, someone on Reddit managed to collect the images and post it. If you want the larger zoom-in images, that’s where to go.
Concept art is not final design work. It’s to give a general idea of set and costume designs, so things may change and these aren’t necessarily actual scenes from Doomsday or anything else coming to the MCU movies and shows in the near future. Still, everyone is having fun trying to guess where things are going, so why shouldn’t I join the fun? Note that there are MCU stories, even when they were good, that I didn’t get into, like the Thor movies or anything on Disney+. I’ve seen reviews, commentaries, and stories on them, and of course I know the comics for the most part… probably better than anyone AT Marvel Studios. We can still analyze the art and see if we can theorize some ideas as to what they’re planning.
I’ll pop up a gallery (I’m playing with the block editor today, seeing how long it takes me to go back to Classic editor like the last two attempts) and then give my overall perspective. I tried to format it into slideshows and galleries but couldn’t get it to work the way I wanted, so just scroll down. Clicking on an image will open it in a new window.
The white version of Vision apparently comes from the end of WandaVision and hasn’t been seen since. Not sure how ended up with Star Lord, but I don’t know why they’re on a couch. I miss Vision’s classic colors and no, I don’t care that he was pure white for a while in the comics. I still want Wolverine in the brown outfit and that was in the comics. Look how long it took to finally get the yellow spandex!

I haven’t even seen the movies, and I’m still not surprised Star Lord is spending so much of the movie drinking.
Speculation is that these are the Young Avengers…or at least as much the Young Avengers as that other group is the Thunderbolts. Sorry, Thunderbolts*. I guess that makes these Young Avengers*. Then again, we don’t have a proper Avengers with or without the asterisk. Everyone’s either dead or replaced. Anyone else think the girl on the right is interested in Wong?

“For naming your son after he who shall not be named…” “But my uncle is named Richard” “A poor excuse!”
A picture of Doctor Doom hording court. Again, not his traditional colors, but it is what “Superior” Iron Man wore both as Tony and Doom. This could push the idea that MCU Tony is MCU Doom and not just sharing an actor.
A better image of Doom, chillin’ on his throne. A bit closer to his colors. I’m not sure if they’re darker because of the art or because it’s made for a movie in the 2020s, where color has gone to die. Truly we live in a world without Rainbow Brite and it is really is the dark times.

Here’s another sketch of Doom holding court. Maybe this guy is responsible for his missing throne? So will he do anything besides sit on his butt all movie?

I’ve seen speculation that this is supposed to be T’Challa Junior, not the demanded recast of the original after the passing of Chadwick Boseman. (I just realized: they have Harrison Ford replacing a dead actor as General Ross after William Hurt’s passing. Using John Boyega to replace Boseman is even more acceptable. Han/Finn reunion?) Nothing definite on that front, but given the rest of the Disney-acquired studios aren’t even trying to get it right, I don’t have hopes on them just bringing T’Challa back. The outfit seems okay, but why is he standing next to a single level version of Cat’s Lair from ThunderCats? Oh right, I still need to watch the first movie.
Again, the speculation is that Hulk is with She-Hulk and Sakkar, son of Hulk. Which just raises a bunch of questions I don’t think I want the answer to. Apparently nobody is noticing all the other hulks out there. Maybe because none of them are red. Good luck getting Uber in this place.
Just a random torture chamber? They force him to watch The Marvels. You have to wonder how this is going to work in the movie. Kind of reminds me of this, though.

Not MCU concept art. They’re letting Amazon screw up that live-action adaptation after Netflix’s animated ones.
Not that I’m surprised Doctor Doom would have a torture chamber. He keeps the storybook fairytale look in the town.
The final bit of speculation is that this is going to be some kind of Battleworld 2 scenario. The first one was bits of the earth and the last Secret War titled event had Doom’s Battleworld taken from bits of the multiverse. The problem is Peter and Vision Jr on the couch is the only thing that doesn’t look like the kind of medieval setting Doom tends to keep Latveria stuck in. Even “Panther’s Lair” wouldn’t be out of place. I think there may be plans outside of another Battleworld unless we see scenes of other locations. I’m still going to wait until I hear about this movie officially and in reviews to make a decision on my own, but it is pretty art. Rizvi should be proud of the work, which is why he put it online until presumably Marvel Studios told him to take it down, or maybe he had prescheduled it for when the movie came out and forgot to do the actual scheduling part. I don’t know. Marvel should at least be happy for once they’re talking about one of their movies without trashing it as immediate garbage. Based on their history, this is temporary, and that’s more inevitable than Thanos. Love it while you can.
It could be worse. I could be trying to tell you I’ve solved the whole movie just from the concept art. I’ll let Film Theory handle that one.
