Cyber Jane Free Comic Book Day 2017

Lucky Comics (Maay, 2017–their typo, not mine)

“How To Make A Name”

WRITER/ARTIST/CREATOR: Dan Solano

LETTERER: John Michael Helmer

SELECTED COVER COLORIST: Francesca Zambon

Jane is a cyborg without memory. Rescued by the police’s supervillain task force Unit Black, she decides to join. After a brief flashback to her recovery and training to become an officer of Unit Black, we go to a present day story. Mastermind, Tox, and Electrikat are after some chemical. Jane answers the alarm and gets into a battle with Electrikat. Her claws causes the chemical to go off and onto Tox when she is tossed into him. He and Mastermind both run off, leaving Electrikat to face the music. Learning of a new breakout, Jane is back on the job.

What they got right: Previous Lucky Comics tales, like Beetle Girl, never really gave the lady heroes the best showing. Jane wins her fight through training and being that good, rather than luck or back-up like the other tales I’ve seen. The art is pretty good and works for the colorless pages.

What they got wrong: The story is kind of average. That’s fine for a Free Comic Book Day story since at least it’s a complete and original story rather than reprinting a section of the story, but the title suggests something more than a typical day on the job for a cyborg cop fighting supervillains.

What I think overall: One of the better titles to come out of Lucky Comics. I enjoyed it and wouldn’t mind checking out this series to see if this is the norm.
