“Outcast” chapter 1

Thomas Hunter, the Aladdin agent called Wrath, is sent to investigate the strange power outages in Pittsburgh, including one alongside an attack on the nuclear plant that left guards injured and plutonium missing but no radiation leakage. Wrath tracks the strange attacker to where he’s hiding. The stranger (not to be confused with those other “strangers” in the Ultraverse) can only communicate through a translating disk and even though Wrath can deflect his energy attack back at him, the attacker manages to chase him out with an explosive…and Mantra is standing outside.
What they got right: Here’s a chance to learn more about Aladdin and whether or not they’re the bad guys like Samuels. We learn at least a bit about his abilities: the suit absorbs and redirects energy blasts while he has the ability to sense Ultras, sporadic though the power may be. We have a good set up to the mystery of this storyline.
What they got wrong: I still don’t like the costume design and I don’t know how he got the codename Wrath. Mantra really seems to be getting around, as if he/she is determined I’m going to read his/her adventures whether I read the regular comic or not. I can’t escape this person.
Recommendation: Issue 1 is off to a good start. Let’s see where it goes.
