In our main story, Sonic races to save Tails from the volcano, with Metal Sonic using traps and his enhanced speed to slow him down. Sonic manages to delay his robotic counterpart with his own traps, but as Sonic frees Tails, Metal Sonic shows up and attacks them. Sonic tries persuading the robot that with the Power Gem giving him a personality he should try to drop the revenge thing and make friends, but it’s Tails’ refusal to leave his friend’s side that gets through to him and he sacrifices himself to save our heroes.
I’m sorry, they try to come up with a reason for Metal’s face(plate) turn, but I still felt it happened way too easily, probably due to the lack of page space. The art and action were both good though.
Back to Monkey Khan, I guess the story is still in flashback, or Strom forgot the current Robotnik is a robot from another dimension with that reality’s Ivo Robotnik’s mind in his programming. Robotnik tries to have Monkey Khan put back under his control with the roboticized General Hun, but thanks to his boosted strength via the power ring-formed headband boosting his bionics, he manages to escape. Too bad Robotnik already left with all of Khan’s people roboticized. I’m not sure when this is supposed to take place, but while a sad ending it works for the story.
Overall I don’t hate this comic but it’s not all that exciting. Without the back-up there might have been more time for a decent redemption story for Metal Sonic and the back-up, while interesting, wasn’t very exciting. I’m rather neutral on this one.
