This is an eight page preview, but I’m a little short on time this week so I’m running with it. Rather than a full review I’ll be judging it as a preview comic.
Shanghai, China. Iris is the executive assistant for a company that…let’s just say it’s Hollywood’s idea of what a businessman is. Plus it’s China, so you know this isn’t a Hollywood production. Apparently her job, as trained at the academy, is to serve as the CEO’s assassin, investigator, and sexual partner, and she’s happy to do it. In fact this preview has her getting her new mission, a pipeline in Belarus the government has opted not to continue with, and the CEO is not happy.
Maybe I couldn’t use an assistant like Iris, but only because I have a good conscience. Assassins and concubines just aren’t my thing. From the preview it looks like we’re following the villains, and not in the fun parody way. That’s not the story I’m looking for. I will say that the art is gorgeous and the writing sets up the series plot well enough. Any complaints I may have boils down to personal choice rather than any technical issue save one: for this digital copy two, or technically four, of the pages are on their side because of how PDF files work. That means I had to tilt my head to the side to read them on my computer. That’s annoying.
I don’t think this is my kind of story but it is a well made story, so it might be worth looking into since it’s free.
