I caught today’s Morning Nonsense podcast from the Literature Devil, and one of the topics covered was a teaser for “Spider-Noir”, a take on the noir inspired alternate take on Peter Parker and Spider-Man. I thought it would make a nice quick post. Except I cannot find this officially. I know it’s coming. CNet posted a teaser picture from Amazon/MGM and Sony Pictures. It’s set to drop sometime in 2026. They had pictures at a conference and everything. It’s the teaser I can’t confirm is official, but it seems to have gotten some reaction.
Seriously, as of this writing a little before 4 PM ET, I looked on the official YouTube channels for Amazon MGM Studios, MGM+, Prime Movies, and Prime Video. Nothing. So I went to the Sony side: Sony Pictures? Nope. Regular Sony channel? Sorry. Their television channel? Nada. Even their Spider-Man movie channel hasn’t been updated in a year. Finally, I tried Marvel Entertainment and all they have are videos related to MCU stuff nobody cares about and a video about coloring comics I did watch part of and will finish after I’m done writing this. Nothing on “Spider-Noir”.
So I can’t confirm this is official, but it does look nice and gives me something to discuss, since it is in the works, is live-action for some reason, and does star Nicholas Cage reprising his voice work from the Spiderverse movies as this alternate version of Peter Parker. Let’s look at the supposed teaser and discuss the character.
Or at least I would if everything I just wrote went total }pfffttttt{ because it apparently got taken down. Two separate hosts, so I have to assume Sony, Amazon/MGM, or Marvel were responsible. So was it official? I guess we won’t know until there’s an official release, so that kind of fubars the entire article! Heck with it, let’s discuss the character anyway. I’ve written this much.
So here’s some kind of trailer, a fan made trailer, just to show you something.
TeaserCon has a few fan trailers up but we’re supposed to be talking about alleged official ones. It hasn’t been pulled off of X-Twitter yet, so I guess you can see the one that was released and decide for yourself if it’s official. For at long as its up there.
If that stops working, Literature Devil has been streaming Morning Nonsense to X-Twitter. I’ll just link to that posting and move on.
So what is Spider-Man Noir or Spider-Noir? Actually he should be called “The Spider-Man”, and he comes from the film noir inspired Earth-90214. Here’s a video from Variant Comics about the character’s history when he was set for the Spiderverse comics.
I don’t know. Cage seems too old physically to play Peter B. Parker at 60+ years old (yes, Into The Spider-Verse fans, this version is the Peter B. Parker and not Miles’ goofball mentor), though I would buy him as the voice of noir Spider-Man. According to IMDB, which is owned by Amazon, he’ll be reimagined not as a reporter but as the typical noir story down on his luck detective, probably because they didn’t actually read the comics and just wanted to do a flashier form of film noir. I guess he can’t play Luke Cage in any form, despite the black hero being the white actor’s stage name origin (he was born Nicholas Coppola and didn’t want to be confused with the famous director he isn’t related to). And I do not want him as Superman, I don’t care if its his favorite DC hero. It’s mine, too, and I’m not even convinced he’d have the right voice for Clark Kent/Superman or the former Power Man. Noir Peter Parker? Perhaps, but not in physical form even with all the false shadowing. At least a lot of it looks fake to me. Compare it to an actual noir film from the period that created it.
Could this be good? Anything’s possible, but if Aunt May is a socialist like the Marvel Database claims I can see the modern Hollywood politics already. Then again, this isn’t that Peter so it might not be that May. I’m just curious if the leaded trailer that got torn down was legit or not. Maybe we’ll find out before 2026 when the show is supposed to premiere. At least Sony is finally doing a Spider-Man movie with a Spider-Man, though I don’t know why they went with MGM and Amazon for their distribution. Questions in need of answers. Maybe WE need a detective.
UPDATE: 5/17/2025: Okay, from what I’ve heard this was an early version that leaked early and that’s why it was taken down.
