If you’ve been following the comic, this is an extended telling of Tech’s backstory, set as her visiting her father’s grave. After his death, Lela Cho is approached at her funeral by Kyle Sanders, a man interested in her company, Hypersonic. It’s a bad time but he warns he’ll be in touch. When he gets more aggressive and the board is clearly interested in ousting her from her father’s company, Lela goes to J.D. Hunt. He may be a scumbag but at this point he’s not with her enemies, so she gets the wetware that increases her strength and gives her control over machines. Unfortunately, Sanders planned for that with a couple ultras of his own, who force her to sign in front of the board. Before they can assault her, she breaks free and escapes. Back in the present, Dropkick joins her at the grave, but her story isn’t over. We’ve learned her origin…again…but not the origin of The Solution. Yet.
What they got right: While it’s not information we don’t already know, it’s a big more expanded on as we get Lela’s thoughts about the events that led to her becoming the ultra for hire Tech. The presentation is fine.
What they got wrong: Otherwise, it is technically information we already know about her backstory. I could guess if I didn’t just take a shower before writing this, but why were they planning to make her do porn? Why would the board want to sexually assault her? Were the board the ones behind her parents’ deaths so they could take over?
What I think overall: I’m glad events led to me giving this comic another shot because it actually is getting interesting.
