I’d make a joke if I could make any sense of what’s going on here.

Yoshiro #1

(September, 2025)

WRITER/ARTIST/CREATOR: Roberto Jeferson

Yoshiro’s ancestry is half Japanese, half Brazilian. Or that’s what he thinks. His father died in a car crash, forcing him to be the man of the house for his tease-happy sister and mother as well as study martial arts to keep the family tradition. Except he’s wrong about his nationality, which he learns when a dragon comes to kill him so his enemy will release his captured sister. All that does is wake up his “style”, the secret power of Yoshiro’s real ancestry, Kanarsians. And that’s not the only secret his mom and sister have kept from this future human weapon.

What they got right: The concept seems interesting. I wish I had more to say than that, but….

What they got wrong: This is one exposition-happy comic. From Yoshiro’s own monologue about his history to his sister just rambling things off, there’s more exposition than action. And somehow there are still things we aren’t aware of, like Camila (Yoshiro’s sister) being involved with the dragon boy or the whole connection salt thing that goes nowhere because the attack just activates his Stand Style anyway. Yes, I did note the obvious JoJo’s Bizarre Adventures connection, but that doesn’t mean the story couldn’t be good.

What I think overall: Though I read this from Drive Thru Comics, the whole series is up on the creator’s Tapas page if you want to check it out. For me, it just didn’t gather my interest.
