I’m sparing you a very terrible joke about hands. Two, actually.

The Solution #7

Malibu Comics/Ultraverse (March, 1994)

“Payback” part 2

WRITER: James D. Hudnall

PENCILER: John Statema

INKER: Tom Florimonte

COLORING: Tim Divar & Violent Hues

LETTERER: Tim Eldred

EDITOR: Hank Kanalz

As Dropkick arrives, Tech continues to tell her late father about the forming of the Solution. Lela goes to an old friend for help, who points her to a troubleshooter named Troy Wilde (currently Dropkick but not back then). She explains her situation, but he’s interested in her wetware. Since she’s an Ultra looking for other Ultras, he brings her to a pub in London that sits on an old Roman temple from back when it was called Londinium. Unfortunately, another troubleshooter named Casino, hired by the people after Lela and having attacked them earlier, show up. A magic user manages to freeze her, but not before she damages Troy’s eyes. The rest of the flashback will wait, because in the present an assassin has Lela in his rifle sights.

What they got right: I don’t know if the magic user is Shadowmage (Grand Comics Database doesn’t seem to think so), but it’s an introduction to the same magic. It’s also a good way to get Troy, later Dropkick, into the team.

What they got wrong: I don’t have any real complaints here.

What I think overall: Again, I’m glad I gave this comic a second chance as it’s turning out to be pretty good.
