This isn’t a story so much as a summary of where the story of Fathom currently is. The narration comes from a member of the Black, the group that previous was only mentioned in these previews. We still don’t really see any of them, but it’s mentioned that they believe they know their origins all the way back to the dawn of life on Earth. He or she mentions a human prisoner of the Blue who has decided to start talking…by insulting everyone. We also see the Blue’s new leader, Siphon, the US army general dealing with his inability to wipe out the Blue, that Kiani is working with her father to continue the war against the surface world, and we’re told that the key to setting things right still lies with Aspen, daughter of the Blue and the Black who was raised by humans. She also seems to have hooked up with the guy from earlier. Well, they better do something, because the narrator seems to be indicating something else is coming.
This is a catch-up rather than a start, like the previous #0s. However, there’s no story on its own beyond that, which is a bit disappointing. The artwork is still beautiful and it still works as a “for those who came in late” recording, which is the goal.
I still wouldn’t mind catching this series someday just to see how it stacks up to all these previews I’m reviewing from Drive Thru Comics. I have five more of these to go, and we’ll see if they work as well at being teasers.
