Not much to summarize. Aspen wakes up in a lab with humans in armor, escapes, and takes out some of the bad guys with her powers, then finds herself deeper underwater than she’s been, somewhere in the ruins of an undersea people’s city. We do learn that they have and possibly killed others of her kind. That’s it.

This is a preview of the next chapter of an ongoing series. It does show off Aspen’s powers, and we haven’t seen much of her in these freebie comics at all lately. The question is whether or not it makes a total outsider to the comic interested in checking it out. I’m not completely convinced either way. She does have cool powers and the bad guys are easily defined, plus we get a hint of her backstory in the narration. (Remember third person narration, kids?) The art is as good as usual from this company, certainly one of the better comics in that regard.

Overall it’s more a preview for existing readers than an introduction to new ones, but it might end up working on those grounds as well. Your mileage may vary.
