Originally, the caption joke was going to be Jake’s punchline. Then while coming up with the caption joke I decided to make THAT Jake’s punchline and make the original the new caption joke. Confused?
Yes, it’s the next Power Ranger parody. When looking at Power Rangers Turbo I knew the parody had to be Justin, the kid who becomes the new Blue Ranger. My first thought was to make fun of the fact that a kid was taking over for Rocky, who seldom catches a break, does he? However, I thought that any fans of Sentai would point out that there have been kids in Sentai teams before (in fact, Tommy’s White Ranger counterpart was a kid), so I thought about doing that joke. Eventually, I settled on the fact that Justin would be too young to drive. How does the officer KNOW the Blue Ranger is a little kid? I’m assuming the voice.
The “jeep” for non-Power Ranger fans, is Storm Blaster, a sentient car (who sadly doesn’t talk or transform) who could obviously drive itself. Justin and Storm Blaster were shown to be good friends in the next series, Power Rangers in Space, so it seemed the right way to go. That and using the Zord vehicle would have been problematic. When I remembered this, the comic came into place.
