BW Daily Article Link: Defining A Outlaw Comic

No, I don’t think that’s what it means.

You’ve heard of indie comics, self-published comics, underground comics, but have you heard of “outlaw” comics? I hadn’t until this article by comic creator and teaching artist Lucifer Storm attempted to define what that means.

Chapter By Chapter> BattleTech: I Am Jade Falcon chapters 15-17

Chapter By Chapter features me reading one chapter of the selected book at the time and reviewing it as if I were reviewing an episode of a TV show or an issue of a comic. There will be spoilers if you haven’t read to the point I have, and if you’ve read further I ask that you don’t spoil anything further into the book. Think of it as read-along book club.

Yep, three chapters this time. Given how many chapters are in this book a little speeding up isn’t such a bad thing, but I wonder how many more short chapters this book has. It’s still better than Op-Center but short chapters rarely sit right with me.

So last time Ravill showed he can back up at least part of his boasting when it comes to covering his own rear end. I’m not sure why he left Joanna alive but I don’t understand a lot of what this guy does, even within what I can understand about Jade Falcon culture. (I can understand something, even respect it to a point, without agreeing with it. It’s becoming a lost art.) Of course we need her alive for the spy story and I’m wondering when we’ll get back to that. Maybe somewhere in these three chapters we’ll get an answer to that.

BW’s Daily Article Link: The Fictional Theories Of Time Travel

Oh boy do they? Time travel is something I’m not a fan of. If one theory is correct than the proof we never gain time travel is that we still exist. I kind of like what Team Four Star in Dragon Ball Z Abridged referred to as “multiverse theory”, if only because that’s more interesting narratively. Author James Harrington goes over the prevailing theories of time travel and comes to a similar conclusion.

Jake & Leon #482: Sleepless In CT

“Not that I was supposed to, but you didn’t take Mrs. Green’s math class.”

Insomnia was something I dealt with this week, which means my usual issues with my sleep cycle lately got worse. Saturday I was so tired I didn’t even get to do a Clutter Report and I’m lucky I was able to clean my toilet. (It needed it.) Even this comic was late.

So can I do that Art Of Storytelling article this week? Maybe. A Finally Watched would be nice as well. At least I know there will be a Chapter By Chapter review of BattleTech: I Am Jade Falcon, except I’ll be reviewing three short chapters instead of one big one. What else will happen? If I can get a good night’s sleep all week we’ll both find out. Have a good week, folks. Sleep well.

Saturday Night Showcase: Ultraman Orb episode 1

Here’s another one that Shout Factory recently posted to their TokuSHOUTsu YouTube channel. Last week we looked at the first Ultraman and tonight we have something a bit more recent, namely my hated year of 2016. So at least something positive happened that year in the areas we discuss. Ultraman Orb is the 28th entry in the series, and according to the Ultraman fan wiki is the 6th chapter of something called the Ultraman Orb Chronicle. My Ultra-knowledge is a bit weak on that. It’s also celebrating the 50th anniversary of Ultraman and the 20th anniversary of previous Showcase posting Ultraman Tiga.

In our first episode we meet Naomi. Her uncle works for the latest anti-monster task force, VTL or Versatile Tactical Leader. (I know some of these shows take place in other dimensions, one takes place in Australia, and two others in America, plus one in Korea I only know through the “New Generation Heroes” shows on Tsuburaya’s YouTube channel, but you’d think they wouldn’t have to change the group name every series. It feels like the Japanese government keeps creating new groups all the time and I keep wondering how many of the old groups they still spend tax money on. Or at least get a better name than “Versatile Tactical Leader”.) At any rate, Naomi and some friends have started their own group, a paranormal research team known as the SSP, the…wait, really? The “Something Search People”? I’m not sure if that’s better or worse than Versatile Tactical Leader. Whatever, the point is the SSP are about to find their paranormal when they have to be saved from a tornado-making monster by the latest Ultra on the planet. Enjoy.
