Another month, another batch of comics I’m hoping Diamond and the companies actually get out to me. Although Free Comic Book Day has come and gone, more comics are coming out in the Merry Month of May that I want to own, and when owned, review. So what comics can you expect to see on the site in the next few weeks?
no week announced:
The Incredibles: Family Matters #2 [Boom! Kids]
The last issue seemed to be in good standing with the movie, and I am curious to find out what’s going on with Mr. Incredible’s powers. However, the fact that they’re making such a big deal about who is working on it rather than what the story’s about concerns me. And another incentive cover? After last issue’s total travesty with the mulitple covers, I hope they’ve learned their lesson. I imagine not.
Muppet Robin Hood #1 (of 4) [Boom! Kids]
A different writer and artist than the main title, but the Muppets are no stranger to movie parodies. Now they’re going after literature. This should be a lot of fun. Let me rephrase: This had better be a lot of fun.

Doctor Who: Cold Day in Hell [Titan]
Reprinting the 7th Doctor’s tales from the pages of Doctor Who Magazine. Sure it means sitting through a Simon Furman tale, and part of me may just forget this and wait for IDW to reprint it. We’ll see who wins that battle. Doctor 7 is probably my least favorite Doctor, since it was the start of leading him to the uber Time Lord role advanced in the novels and used to annoying level by Russel T in the new series.
How To Draw Transforming Robots [Antarctic Press]
I’m not sure my local comic shop even ordered this, since I didn’t know about until my last-minute check of all the May offerings. If they don’t have a spare, I’ll be heading for the bookstore to see if they do. This could end up being an important resource for me.
Power Girl #1 [DC Comics]
Does someone at DC finally know what to do with her, besides seeing how big they can make her breasts and letting us all know she has big breasts? Some of her uses have been fun, and I’ve considered getting the recent Terra mini/collected GN. We’ll have to see if I’m convinced to get this comic.
Supergirl: Cosmic Adventures in the 8th Grade (#6 of..I can’t write it) [DC Comics]
Why? WHY IS THIS THE FINAL ISSUE! What in heaven’s name are you thinking, DC Comics? Didio, get your butt in gear and give the full series a green light! I MEAN NOW!
Transformers and Philosophy [novel–date unconfirmed]
This one I KNOW won’t be coming to my comic store, and I’m going to have to find at a bookstore. It’s part of a series of novels using popular culture in a phliosophical discussion. If you’ve ever been to the alt.toys.transformers newsgroup, you’ve already seen this in action. It’s mostly a curiosity for me to check this thing out because of my time at ATT.

Doctor Who Classics Series 2 #6 [IDW]
More stories with my favorite Doctor (or at least the one I know best). If any of you are worried about the new Doctor, Matt Smith, because of his age, let me (re)introduce you to Peter Davidson.
History of the DC Universe (new printing) [DC Comics]
Although 616 is mostly dead to me, I’ve been a DCU fan since the Superfriends of my youth. It saddens me to see what it’s become as of late, but I do want to try and make sense of what’s going on. The question is whether this will help or not.
Marvel Adventures: Super Heroes #11 [Marvel]
I hope at some point somebody told Louise Simonson that Thor is supposed to be linked to Storm in the MAverse, but there doesn’t seem to be any continuity between the different MA titles. This is a mistake that should be corrected. Still, she does write a good Thor story.
Sonic The Hedgehog #200 [Archie]
I’ve been away from the mainline comic (tried reading Sonic X, but it wasn’t the same) for many years, ever since someone had the “bright” idea to try to fit three stories into one normal-sized comic. This was not the way to bring us new Knuckles stories, while still giving us “Tales of the Freedom Fighters” stories. Hopefully, Sonic Universe has fixed this problem, and what better way to start than the next change in the status quo on Mobius?
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Adventures: Heroes in a Half Shell [Archie]
Archie comics had their own version of the Mirage characters, which started with an adaptation of the cartoon before going totally in their own direction. The result was a great comic series to rival the original. Now, with the Turtles celebrating their 25th anniversary (Mirage reprinted the first comic for Free Comic Book Day, and the movies are about to be released in a box set), Archie is reprinting their old comics. I want to check this out.
LAST MINUTE ADDITION:
Lockjaw and the Pet Avengers #1 [Marvel]
I can’t believe I missed this when I first posted this article. This may be the only 616 title worth picking up. I want to know where the new Frog Thor comes from.

Billy Batson and the Magic of Shazam! #5 [DC Comics]
The debut of BB Dr. Silvana. This should be good. Once Cosmic Supergirl…you know…, this will be the best comic DC produces. (Unless Didio continues to be stupid. Which is highly possible.)
Booster Gold: 52 Pick-up [DC Comics]
I keep hearing that the new Booster Gold series is good. Time to prove it to me!
G-Man: Learning to Fly [Image]
Only one thing can make be buy an Image comic willingly. Chris Giarrusso.
Marvel Adventures: The Avengers #36 [Marvel]
If you’ve read this site, you know why. I’m still amazed the last issue was beat for Best Scene of the Week yesterday.

Batman: The Brave and the Bold #5 [DC Comics]
I will be comparing B:TBATB Captain Marvel to Billy Batson Captain Marvel.
Doctor Who: The Time Machination [IDW]
A Doctor Who story written by Tony Lee. That’s all I need to know. Everything else in the listing up there is just the icing.
The Incredibles: Family Matters #3 [Boom! Kids]
See above: all said in the #2 comment fits here as well
The Muppet Show #3 (of 4) [Boom! Kids]
A Gonzo focus story? I’m all for it. Although it looks like he’s ignoring Muppets From Space as far as Gonzo’s origins. That’s kind of too bad, but we’ll see what Roger has in store. I like his track record storywise thus far. I just wish he’d stop trying to work the musical numbers into soundless text.
The Phantom: Generations #3 [Moonstone]
Don’t count on this one showing up on time. I’m still waiting on #2.
Showcase Presents: Super Friends #1 [DC Comics]
Reprints of the old comics, based on the Hanna-Barbera series. These start in the real early days, which means Wendy, Marvin, and Wonderdog. At least the latter won’t kill the other two. Since it’s Showcase, these will probably end up being black-and white, but since tracking down the originals will be difficult, what choice is there? I do have some color issues to compare it to that I found in bargain bins.
Transformers: All Hail Megatron #11 [IDW]
Get ready, Megatron! The Autobots are back, and you’re going to be in trouble!
Speaking of the Transformers, IDW will also release the first two issues of the adaptation for Revenge of the Fallen. While I will pick these up, I won’t read them until I see the movie. So those will reviews will be a long time coming, perhaps going straight to a Scanning My Collection post. There’s also supposed to be a collected TP coming, but I prefer the regular comics, and last time they had special features in the “floppies”, with interviews and pin-ups. Grab what you prefer.
