So Comic-Con is over for the year. Now comes the time for reading the reports and finding out what’s coming up. I broke out the Not-Comic-Con logo (please don’t hotlink) because I’m going to get the non-comic related stuff out of the way early. I’m thinking that there won’t be a lot of video game news, so it’s an easy post for a Monday. Let’s see if I’m right.
- Check out the trailer for the new Iron Man 2 game. Matt Fraction, the current Iron Man comic writer, will be writing the story for the game, and will incorporate elements of both the comics and the movie. Personally, I’d rather he just go total original like some of the recent Spider-Man games if he’s going to do that. If someone played this at Comic-Con please tell me if it’s any good. I’ll be keeping an eye on the website in case they release a demo.
- Marvel’s other gaming partner, Activision, released video and screenshots for the upcoming Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2, the game based on the “Civil War” event that everybody loved. And by everybody I mean sure as hell not me.
- I haven’t gotten into the Scott Pilgrim craze that’s all the rage in the independent comics scene. However, for any readers who are, there’s a video game coming out.
- DC Universe Online is DC’s big MMO game. Both Newsarama and Comic Book Resources had interviews with Marv Wolfman and Jim Lee, but I can’t seen to find an actual panel at Comic-Con.
And that’s all the video game news I could come up with today. Not surprising, since all the big news was at E3, which I probably should have given attention to here, but I really don’t have any good video game news sites in my list at the moment. Most of the gaming action at Comic-Con was in the form of demos, no real panels. Maybe when I go over the comic panels there will be more information.

I might grab Ultimate Alliance 2 when the price comes down, just to break stuff and fool with superpowers. I usually ignore the backstory unless it’s a complex RPG anyhow. Unfortunately, with comics the story is all there is…crap story = crap comic. Arkham Asylum for the PS3 looks cool too.
Was going to wait for DCU, but am desperately bored and going to pick up Champions Online next month. No playable villians (!), but at least there’s some extensive arena PvP there, so that’ll keep me busy for awhile.
Skeptical of any movie game that comes out, they never seem to be much good to me unless it’s Star Wars (well, sometimes at least) or the old EA LOTR games. Fraction alone makes Iron Man II a no-sale for me. Maybe Colonial Marines will break the mold when it finally gets done; it certainly can’t be any worse than these wretched AvP games.
Don’t think I could ever attend a Comic-Con. Too many people, and I HATE people. And the lameass drawings to meet certain celebs? These morons are 30 years behind the times in holding signings, guarantee it with a ticket sale or don’t bother. Why would I go all the way there, hoping to see Stan Lee, just to get screwed over by random chance? Rather pay 200 bucks for a limited number of guaranteed tickets like at card shows. They wanna draw for a few, fine, but it just don’t work the they they’ve had it in past years.

I wouldn’t mind attending the New York Comic-Con, because that’s about comics, like the title says. If I wanted to hear movie, TV, or video game news, I’d go to those cons. (E3 is never anywhere near me, or I’d check that out.) Or go to a multimedia convention, which SDCC isn’t supposed to be.
As far as Fraction, it’s hard for me to tell, since Tony Stark has been damaged not by Fraction but events he doesn’t control in the crossover events. (So I’d put the blame on Bendis and Quesada.) Fraction is pretty much forced to write around that and still somehow make Tony a hero, in spite of his actions in the other comics he showed up in, where he did things like launch the Hulk into space and start a fake war with Atlantis as part of a plan to make the Superhero Registration Act (which originally he was against) easier to pass. It’s pretty much like McDuffie and his problems with Justice League of America.
And I’d rather read Fraction’s Iron Man than Warren Ellis’s. Speaking of which, check out the next Comic-Con report article, the TV and movie report. Talk about good news/bad news with the anime.
