Last but not least, here’s all the info that really didn’t qualify in any of the other articles (some may not even be story media related) but I still found interesting and some last-minute reports that didn’t make it by post time on the other subjects.

  • On the subject of “digital comics”: DC Comics and Catastrophe Comics both introduced new “Motion Comics” while Marvel announced adding a new Spider-Man online comic. Stan Lee also brings us more about Time Jumper, a project I mentioned before. There was also a panel devoted to discussing the future of digital comics and the new “Longbox” service. I sent a request to receive news reports, so I’ll keep you up to date on the service.
  • Congratulations to E-Man co-creator Nicola Cuti, winner of the “Inkpot” Award, which I guess is a big deal.
  • Alex Ross was on a panel and discussed superhero costumes in movies:
  • In citing superheroes that have worked on film, Ross said, “If you’re going to take a costume that is almost a protective accoutrement and bring that to film, then go all the way like they did with Iron Man where it really is a shell. I’m sick of having rubber pieces underneath cloth as if somehow they are representing the physicality of the person underneath. I’d rather see a human body painted a color, where you get a guy who’s in shape and put the spotlight on that person. The human body in great, muscular shape is an amazing thing to study, and I think that could have a powerful effect if that’s not filtered through layers and layers of crap giving an imitation of body form.

I don’t mind it too much if it’s supposed to represent body armor, but otherwise he has a point. He mentions the Tim Burton Batman movie as the starting point of the foam rubber suits. Even original properties have used this since.

  • In case you missed it on Wednesday, the trailers for the Iron Man and Wolverine animes, plus the Marvel Animation panel I didn’t see a report on by post time. Iron Man still looks awesome, but why Ellis? WHY?
  • Also missed by post time Tuesday: Smallville is bringing it’s near-Tangent raping of the DC Universe to the Justice Society of America. Actually, I wish the Tangent universe would get a cartoon. I love Tangent Flash, Joker, and Atom.
  • TwoMorrows announced their plans to publish what they hope is the ultimate history of the comic book industry. If anyone can do it, they can.
  • The DC Animation Panel: They may not be doing a good job with live-action or TV cartoons, but they’ve got some good stuff planned for direct-to-DVD. Not counting adapting a Jeff Loeb story, which doesn’t seem to go well these days.
  • Jeff Katz announced even more titles for his “American Originals” comic company.
  • Four Color Media Monitor gathered together all the Comic-Con reports by Doug TenNapel and James Hudnall at Big Hollywood.

And while I’m sure there either is more or soon will be, I think I’m burned out. Monday is another list, but it’s stuff I’ve collected all month “in case you missed it” style. Then the monthly pull list, and finally back to some articles and ranting. I’m also hoping to go to ConnectiCon this weekend if I can gather the money from this week’s paycheck, so if your in CT this weekend, maybe I’ll see you there.
