Last weekend I took in U-Con @ UConn, a local convention just starting out, with the benefit of a big name guest to the fandom, Doug Walker. But I’ll discuss that, the panel, and the autograph session tomorrow. For today, I thought I’d pop up pics of the few cosplayers that showed up. First, some thoughts.

While U-Con @ UConn wasn’t as big as ConnectiCon (hope to be there this year as well), they have the makings of a decent convention. Occupying the third floor of the Student Union, they had the vendor and game rooms, and some good offerings for the viewing rooms. The only problem with the last one was that some of the shows didn’t match what was in the schedule, so they may want to work on that for next year.

I stopped to eat at a restaurant within the Student Union, Chuck and Augies. I was going to order pasta, but I was low on funds so I went with grilled cheese. I would complain about the wait, but it was hardly a typical night. On Saturday they also had the UConn Huskies playing a home game (no, I didn’t go) so they were really busy. I can cut them a break for that. However, the cheese wasn’t melted which is just wrong for grilled cheese. Still, it was easier than trying to track down the Friendly’s elsewhere on campus. They also had a decent food court, but nothing I was interested in as between the Crohn’s and my eating habits I have a tight menu.

All in all, this was actually an improvement over the limited offerings at ConnectiCon. Their food court was a lot smaller and with fewer offerings. I’m going to have to track down more restaurants near the Convention Center before going up this year.

But now the part you’ve been waiting for: pics of people in costumes, especially the cute girls. 🙂 I didn’t get a shot of “America” and “Canada”, two girls I was in line with for the “That Guy With The Glasses” autograph session. I didn’t recognize the anime they were representing so I wasn’t drawn to snagging the pics. I did, however, learn that Canada is a stronger hugger than she appeared, but since she was a minor I didn’t give her a major hug. Long story, but where else will you see a sentence like that? I bet “hugging Canada” isn’t something you pop into a search engine often. 🙂

And that’s my U-Con at UConn, except for the reason I went up. Tomorrow, all about that guy in the glasses, otherwise known as…um…That Guy. In The Glasses. Yeah.
