DC Super Friends Villains #24

DC Comics/Johnny DC (April 2010)

WRITER: Sholly Fisch

ARTIST: Dario Brizuela

LETTERER: John J. Hill

COLORS: Heroic Age (no, not the Marvel gig)

EDITOR: Rachel Gluckstern

The leading evil scientists have gathered for a convention. lex Luthor has a contest to crown the “greatest criminal genius”, and has summoned the Super Friends to be the judge. And by judge I mean bait. Obviously, the good guys win.

What they got right: It’s kind of interesting to make the super villains the focus of the story. The really young kids may not recognize any of the characters that haven’t been in a recent cartoon or previous issues, but I don’t think you need to in order to enjoy it. And if you do (such as an older reader looking at what his/her kids are reading) who do know these characters might find the story fun.

What they got wrong: Despite my choosing it Best Scene of the Comic, the way the Super Friends escape the death trap is kind of lame, even if it makes for a good joke. This is me stretching for a “wrong” entry. 🙂

Recommendation: I like a comic that has something for everybody. If your like me and don’t collect every issue, this is a good exception to make.

They usually let the audience see them escape. I feel robbed!
