The special guest-star is Ringo, from a webcomic I’ve been running through all week, Crossoverlord, a multiple author project (including BW fave “Linkara”) hosted at Drunk Duck.com. I did one of these once in my old sprite comic days. They have a different system, and it’s better than what we had. Then again, it wasn’t intended as a big story project like this one. We all had our own stories and just had to avoid stepping on someone elses. Crossoverlord is a big storyline where everyone contributes before the “issue” begins and agrees to one script.
At any rate, the comic involves superheroes from across the webcomics community multiverse teaming up to stop a villain from destroying everything. It’s pretty good, so give it a read. And if your wondering how panel 2 was frustrating, or why I used an unapproved cameo, click on the comic. It won’t bite.
(Update: 3/1/2010: It will, however, actually go to the “behind the scenes” page instead of just the image. Sorry about that.)
(Update 10/5/2010: And fixed again, since I’ve altered the archives a bit. I plan to work on an actual archive page for Jake & Leon.)
If you want some bites, you’ll have to settle for what few newsbites I was able to get to this week.
comics
- Everyday Is Like Wednesday‘s Caleb put up a review of a couple Teen Titans collected GNs, and the comments section exploded. Note that these were in the teen section of a library and included the scene where a demonic Wonderdog ate Marvin.
- Snell of Slay Monstrobot of the Deep also made a good point when it comes to comic companies buying other comic companies and doing nothing with their characters.
- Battlemouth had a good interview with Chris Sims of The Invincible Super Blog and Comics Alliance, which shows some people do achieve their dreams.
- And while achieving that dream, Chris and some of Comics Alliance crew took a look at an interview with Mark Millar, then dissected it, and questioned his statement that his comic (soon to be a movie) Kick-Ass emulates the real world.
television/movies
- The University of Mississippi wants a new mascot. One choice? Admiral Ackbar! I’m scared to see how well he’s doing now in the election, as in he might still be winning, and I happen to be a Star Wars fan.
video games
- Hey, there is a book coming out that sets up the Transformers: War for Cybertron game coming out.
in other news
- James “AVGN” Rolfe has been looking at outdated video formats this week at Cinemassacre, but the most interesting one is one called “CED”. I’ve heard about Beta, Laserdiscs, and of course VHS, but not CED. (Sounds like an education exam.) Now he needs to look at the Video CD, the short-lived precursor to the DVD. I wonder if there are any other formats I never heard of.
Short week of news? Probably, since it’s been a busy week for me, and it will be again next week with various stuff going on. So I’ll take this time to introduce a new section to the list: This Week From Cracked! As a kid, Cracked Magazine was one of my favorites, and I preferred it to Mad. Now Cracked is just a website of comedy articles rather than a bunch of parody comics, and they swear like a druken sailor doing his impersonation of the Angry Video Game Nerd (may or may not be an exaggeration), but whenever someone links to an article (usually Chris Sims), I find myself clicking links like crazy reading other articles. It’s like TV Tropes, only lists of topics rather than lists of tropes. And with more swearing.
So every week I’m going to add one of their articles to the “in other news” area. This week’s article: 6 Mental Illness Myths Hollywood Wants You to Believe. Yes, shock therapy does not equal waterboarding, amnesia doesn’t work that way, and mental illness doesn’t give you a super-intellect or make you a badass. Who’da thunk it?
Best Comic Scene of the Week
The Phantom: KGB Noir #2
Surprising that a week that not only featured TWO Landry Walker comics, but one with Edna Mode lost to a guy having his head rammed through a car roof, but damn that’s hardcore! And the good hardcore, without the gore. (Oooh, I rhymed.)
Tomorrow’s review: Billy Batson and the Magic of Shazam! #13

Hey, folks, I fixed the image so you can actually check out the behind the scenes on this week’s Jake & Leon.
As to Al and Neil, hope I did OK with Ringo. Keep up the good work on your end.
