I know what some of you are thinking, and others will be thinking it after the next sentence. “ShadowWing, why are you reviewing a toy review when your supposed to be all about promoting shows and webcomics and stuff like that there?” Simple. Most of the toy reviews I come across, including Transformer reviews, are just plain boring. Internet Personality Vangelus, however, not only gets it right, but goes the extra mile, creating a very entertaining review, even if you don’t plan to get the toy.
Let’s take a look at a prime example of his work, and then I’ll explain why I think it’s the best toy review on YouTube. (Unless I missed a better one. You never know.)
Most of the toy reviews I see are just one straight run, no stops to properly set the figure or in the case of Transformers reviews, tend to show off every single step of transformation. Vangelus, on the other hand KNOWS HOW TO EDIT! He only points out an important step that maybe the instructions missed, or something he finds interesting. He does the same when switching accessories, where he will sometimes discuss the character the toy is based on (or vice versa) and letting the video speak for itself (most of the time). I wish more reviewers would do that. It’s less boring that way.
What they don’t need to do, but where Vangelus stands out, are the added effects. In the case of the above video, he showcases the transformation/accessories in the style of the TV show, again letting the video speak for itself when it comes to the transformation. He has rather good special effects, and occasionally there will be a short story in his reviews. Then there are the subtitles. Rather than only use them to point out something he missed, the subtitles…sorry, the Subtitles are used as a character, making fun of Vangelus when he goofs, points out the obvious (not to the level of other reviewers), or just leaves an opening for a crack. Again, not every toy reviewer needs to do this, but it’s a nice touch and adds to the presentation.
So if you collect Kamen Rider figures, robot mecha, Iron Man figures, or Transformers, give the Vangelus Review a look-see and check out his review before popping down your money. Or if you just want to be entertained.
