Marvel Adventures: Super Heroes (vol.2) #2
Marvel Comics (July 2010)
WRITER: Paul Tobin PENCILER: Ronan Cliquet INKER: Amilton Santos COLORS: Sotocolor LETTERER: Dave Sharpe COVER: Clayton Henry & Guru eFX PRODUCTION: Taylor Esposito ASSISTANT EDITOR: Michael Horwitz EDITOR: Nathan Cosby
Firelord, herald to Galactus, is offering a job for the next herald. All they have to be willing to do is give up one is “one priceless item”. (See, knowing Galactus, I would have thought it would be the Earth, but that’s not what the applicants are thinking.) People are going nuts trying to get the job, but the Avengers smell a rat. And a rat is just what they find when they break up the phony operation.
What they got right: Leave it to Tobin to take a premise like “apply to become the next herald and Galactus” and make it succeed beautifully. Just as beautiful is the artwork. I love the classic Iron Man armor in this comic. (Even if it appears that Tony’s given the armor a fabulous backside. Then again, this is Tony Stark we’re talking about.)
What they got wrong: Attention whomever is in charge of the covers! When this comic was a super hero anthology with the focus placed on a different hero each issue, it was proper to make the cover about that hero. Now that it’s more like MA: Avengers, an ensemble cast, stop telling us that (in this case) Thor is the subject of the story, when he doesn’t even get a speaking part in the TWO PANELS HE SHOWS UP IN! It’s getting on my nerves, and they’ve been doing it since the first volume.
Recommendation: Buy this comic and make yourself happy today.

The stuff that leads up to this make it even better.
