And it has already destroyed the background.

Our heroes are in trouble, with tree monsters roaming loose in the mystical world. The Pet Avengers go with Damiella to convince the Golden One that she needs to stop destroying the world and finally return home. The “Golden One” is a little girl from Earth named Morgan who doesn’t want to go home. With a little help from Frog Thor, Morgan is convinced to return home, and another child takes her place as ruler of the realm. Frog Thor has also found peace with who he is and returns to Earth with his teammates.

What they got right: The art is, of course, beautiful. I actually give more credit to the colorists on this one, who don’t get enough love as part of the art team at times. The shading, the contrast between the “light” and “dark” days of the world just work beautifully. The story also works well. The friendship between Damella and Morgan, and the girl’s pain, works. Except for one detail.

What they got wrong: There is no indication of why she wants to stay, and nobody shows her how staying is destroying the world. She doesn’t seem to have an unhappy life. Morgan just isn’t developed enough. Maybe another page or two would have made her more sympathetic and less of a brat.

Recommendation: As a four-parter or trade, this is a real nice book to add to your collection.

I would so read a Ms. Lion/Hairball comic...if Ms. Lion was written as a female dog like SHE is supposed to be!
