Iron Man: Legacy #3
Marvel Comics (August 2010)
WRITER: Fred Van Lente PENCILER: Steve Kurth INKER: Allen Martinez COLORIST: John Rauch LETTERER: Dave Lanphear COVER ART: Juan Doe (seriously?) ASSISTANT EDITOR: Alejandro Arbona EDITOR: Ralph Macchio
Captured my the Zmaj, history appears to repeat himself, as a fellow captive helps him create the means of his escape. Meanwhile, Doom used Dreadknight to secure Tony’s mobile base, but is surprised to learn that Stark himself has come in the Iron Man armor. After battling Dreadknight with a make-shift exoskeleton and taking his mount, Tony decides that if he can’t stop the war, he’ll escalate it and the result of his actions causes the Chinese government to send in the Radioactive Man.
What they got right: I like the scene at the beginning where we see young Tony and how he deals with his parents’ death, which is really there to explain a line by Tony later. The rest of the story is also well done, and I get the feeling that elements are starting to come together. The shading has lightened up slightly, not enough to separate it from last issue but enough to lighten up a bit. It’s also good to see that Tony can fight even without his Iron Man armor, thanks to his wits and being trained by (the original) Captain America.
What they got wrong: Outside of the scene with Pepper and the Tony LMD, nothing really fits what I’ve come to expect from Van Lente in the MA version of this title and what I’ve seen from Incredible Hercules and other works. It’s more dramatic and while still enjoyable not quite as much fun as those titles.
Recommendation: It’s still the Iron Man we want, although darker than I would have liked. It’s still the only IM title (outside of MA: Super Heroes) I can recommend.

Surprisingly, I didn't go with LMD Tony in a french maid outfit.
